My Brave Grandmother - Bladder Cancer Survivor
Savannah Ward describes herself as health conscious and often participates in athletic events, so it was no surprise when she recently participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. However, this time she was walking in honor of her grandmother, a bladder cancer survivor.
In November of 2016, Savannah's grandmother received the news that she had bladder cancer. Though the diagnosis was devastating, she had no doubt that her grandmother would persevere.
After undergoing two procedures to remove cancer from her bladder and six weeks of chemotherapy treatment at the Mayo Clinic, Savannah's family received the news that her grandmother is now considered to be cancer free this past May.
Her grandma continues to lead an active lifestyle and even helped out at her grandson's farm recently.
In September, she will be re-tested to make sure that she is still in remission.
Savannah shares a strong bond with both her mother and grandmother and considers them to be the two most influential people in her life. "My mother was by her side every step of this journey, she was at every appointment, drove her to all the appointments at Mayo, and was her rock," she states.
. . . . . . . . . .
Thank you for sharing your grandmother's story of tremendous strength, Savannah!
