You are not defined by PTSD, You are a survivor and personal hero!
Your scars aren't visible but it doesn't mean they aren't there. Those ones buried dead inside hurt more than any physical pain you could endure. You suffer in silence because how could anyone understand what you have survived and continue to carry with you even though those days are gone?
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder affects over 24 million people and does not discriminate. It touches the soldiers that come back from war only to continue living the nightmare of what they have seen the rest of their life. The child that was physically or sexually abused grows up feeling ashamed of his/her body and feels unworthy. Those that experience a traumatic event and live daily in fear. Any physical or emotional trauma affects our soul and our heart. It changes us at our core. Once a carefree individual that embraced life and all it's challenges, now lives scared and insecure. This is the life of someone with PTSD.
But you have survived! Your sheer strength and determination to not let this event define you has carried you on. You are a WARRIOR! There will be days that you question yourself but look how far you have come. Just because your wounds are not visible does not mean you can not heal. Choose you. Choose to live your life to the fullest. What happened in the past was out of your control but you can choose today and tomorrow to celebrate the beautiful person you are and this wonderful life you have to live.
Today is National PTSD Awareness Day and a day to celebrate the 24 million people that choose to warrior on every day regardless of the pain they feel inside. You are all beautiful personal heroes! Today celebrate you! Your strength, your courage and the gift you have to share with the world.
